Late Night Opening 2009
August 30th 2009 Abbott's gets national attention as Chris Abbott joins Sky news live in the studio to discuss incandescent light bulb ban Above Chris Abbott live in sky news london studio. The 30th of August 2009 saw Chris Abbott partner of Abbotts put in the lime light on national television. Chris was asked by The British Hardware Federation (BHF) to represent hardware members on Sky news. He sat in the Sky news studio for their lunchtime news slot to discuss some aspecs of the phase out of incandescent light bulb due to the ban imposed by the European Union. Joining him in the studio was light bulb expert professor Heinz Wolff who is world renowned in the energy profession. The footage from sky can be seen in full below and the story followed up by the BHF press and local press pullmans newspaper. Abbotts were awarded the role of being Otterys sole trader for the bags for the food waste scheme. As an indroduction to the scheme the council rewarded all residents with a voucher which would allow them to buy one roll of bags and recive another free of charge. This scheme proved to be very popular but sadly was taken up by more people than the council were happy to pay for, Sadly this ment that only a fraction of the people who brought their vouchers to the store were able to claim theirs. We managed to persuade the council to increase the amount of vouchers by twice as much again but these did not last long as you can imagine. However stocks of the liners never ran out for more than a matter of hours and dispite high demand for sticky vinyl numbers we managed to keep 90% of customers happy. As well as supplying the goods for the new scheme our staff were called upon on a number of occasions to give information and advice to customers on how the new scheme would operate. Chris Abbott said " We were more than happy to help with any quires that customers had regarding the new scheme, as we had a fair amount of knowledge after the scheme was rolled out in the seaton area. It was that insight which enabled us to be well prepared for the roll out in this area".
